If you're looking to get out of the city and explore North Georgia in December - great time! The mountains and small towns up north turn cozy and festive. Here are some fun things to do.

  • Dahlonega, Georgia hosts a month long "Old Fashioned Christmas" during December- think twinkling lights on historic building, a tree lighting, horse drawn carriage rides, Christmas markets, and Santa appearances. For history lovers: stop by the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site to learn about America's first gold rush which is a fun activity to do indoors when it gets chilly.

  • Blue Ridge, Georgia has a Holiday Express themed train ride with hot cocoa, seasonal tunes, and sometimes surprise visits from Santa. You can go ice skating at the Farmer's Market. Nearby there is also the small-town Christmas parade in McCaysville, GA.

  • Hiawassee, Georgia hosts a holiday light show, Mountain Country Christmas at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. This walk-through light display along the lake, often features festive music, holiday food venders, and seasonal fun.

For a more outdoors, hiking, and scenic view, there are plenty of place to hike.

  • Raven Cliff Falls is located in near Helen, GA. The crisp air and quieter trail offer a different kind of beauty.

  • Horestrough Falls in Union County is a shorter, easy to access nature perk. There is a nice waterfall and a gentle trail .
